But, but, but… it will be more secure! Also think about the children!
Use pinephone ;-) It has hardware switches and runs linux :-p
It also misses calls and texts “:-p”. People predominately want reliability from their phone os…
I think you have not updated information ;-) I’m using a Pinephone with Mobian OS (Debian for mobile) and I can call, receive messages (SMS, deltachat, telegram, matrix…). Lately I think we can even use MMS (in my country nobody send them, but it seems that in USA people do).
So, what else?
Pinephone is not for all users (the new Pinephone Pro will be) because it has rought corners, but it’s for sure for medium/advanced linux users.
Even worse, it probably eats up a significant amount of battery
I don’t want to think about it… And now that all phones have ultra rapid charge I can see batterys just dying as if were iPhones.
This sucks.
Already microphones that always listen. This was the next “logical” leap for this dark path.
At least cameras you can easily cover
Yeah that’s what I was thinking. Buy a librem 5 with hardware cut off switches if you want the privacy
Even if I love the ideas and the librem phone 5. It’s just way to expensive. I mean, if it was a 100/150€ phone I will bought it instantly. Sadly I do not have the money
Pinephones are cheaper and also have kill switches. Another option is to get a old Google Pixel and isntall GrapheneOS on it.
If we had phones with trustworthy software on them, then this would be a nice hardware feature instead of a scary problem…
let’s hope that proper free software will win over tech monopolies in the future. Then I can finally sleep well while owning a smartphone that has all kind of “magic” features
Wait until companies start to have this on the phones and laptops they issue
Scary
