Great idea, need to make some new ones though. This is from a set put out about 2 years ago, and refers to websites, hashtags, etc, not in current use.
Are Mastodon and Friendica compatible/is it redundant to use both? Or are they two different things? I keep getting mixed responses.
they use the same protocol for federation so you’ll be able to see posts from one on the other, but your own user experience will be different depending on which you go with. try them and see which you prefer. using both is not necessarily redundant, like if you wanted to get both experiences separately, but in most cases 1 is fine
Yes they both use ActivityPub and are (mostly) compatible.
Ask yourself this first, what is your objective using these tools?; Do you want to socialize, or do you have some other objective? Or even do you think using this will help you or will it be a problem that may hinder you instead of helping you do the thing you want to do?
The dilemma you are asking for an answer is meaningless without the context of the question. Possibly one is best for one thing or the other. But I know for a fact if you tried both and understood what you want to do, you can decide it for yourself. After all it’s just a matter of personal preference and the usage case.
