Reddit is really good for hobby/niche content. Reddit communities have become the largest online communities for quiet a few different interests where previously the largest communities would be independent forums.

It would be great if some forums decided to use Lemmy. I guess there are barriers to this, e.g. user interface changes might not be wanted and it might be difficult to export/import the forum history.

40 percent of Russians do not support the official recognition of the Donetsk and Luhansk “people’s republics” by the Russian authorities, while 45 percent of Russians do. While some signs of “rallying around the flag” are inevitable, it is remarkable that despite complete control over major media sources and a dramatic outpouring of propagandistic demagoguery on TV, the Kremlin is unable to foment enthusiasm for war.

Perhaps they have grown wiser to war propaganda after the retaliatory sanctions for the annexation of Crimea?

Any moment now we will get people jumping in the comments section saying this: buT It’s jUsTiafied BecUAse NatO

If you are defending invasions like this you are just a propagandist

Ukraine will have strong western support so it won’t be as easy as Chechnya. Although Putin might decide to annex anyway.

I like to use Lemmy though a browser on mobile, the interface is good (especially compared to reddit) but I think the buttons could be changed a bit to make it better.

I think it might improve the mobile UI to have all buttons at the bottom (sort of like in lemmur):

Buttons that I think would be useful at the bottom:

  • Home (like in lemmur)
  • Communities (like in lemmur)
  • Search (like in lemmur)
  • Profile (like in lemmur)
  • Notifications
  • Create post
  • Sort

Are you going to wait until all hexbear features have been added to Lemmy before moving or do you think you will move over before that point? Any idea how long this will take?

Thanks for the contributions by the way!

I would prefer not to change the title because:

  1. It does include comments from WHO that are not specific to the US:

The World Health Organization on Thursday pushed back against the consistent chatter that the ultra-transmissible omicron coronavirus is “mild,” noting that the variant is causing a “tsunami of cases” that is “overwhelming health systems around the world.”

  2. The post title is the same as the article title.

He knows they hate vaccines and he is dooing this anyway. Trump is worried his chances in the next election will be hurt because too many in his base will die.

Honestly it’s incredible, their hero is giving them advise that will save their lives and they just don;t want to hear it.

I would like to see more federation if possible. Would it be possible to add seeing Plemora/Mastadon posts on Lemmy? Also it would be cool to federate with pixelfed if possible.

Yes, you can also change your settings so that it shows ‘all’ by default

I’d just like to interject for a moment. What you’re referring to as GNU/Linux, is in fact, SystemD/GNU/Linux, or as I’ve recently taken to calling it, SystemD plus GNU/Linux. GNU/Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning SystemD.
