Usually active local followed by active all. But if i am really thirsty for content, then instead I’ll go for new all. When i first started using lemmy and after a long time not using, i browsed the top all time from all. The sorting by hot and subscriptions will probably work better for me in the future, but right now i avoid them entirely.

I don’t remember exactly. But i like to search for “alternatives to x” in my search for free software because it leads to that website “alternativeto.net” which has a filter for “opensource” which usually means free software for them, so my guess is one day i decided to search for alternatives to reddit that way and i was so excited about it that i made a lemmy account soon after, but it took me a while to actually start using it. It was when i found out about the android client “lemmur” that got me to using it with some frequency. Eventually lemmur stopped working on my phone and i stopped using lemmy, until i saw that jerboa was released and here i am now. I think lemmy has gotten more useable since then as i learned about some people migrating from reddit and now I’m trying to post at least one meme everyday to help keep content flowing.

Social democracy is not a leftist movement? Are they not welcome here?

I went there to read the rules. They sound good albeit a little vague. My main concerns are desinformation and hate speech. For desinformation its stated that you need to post sources, but what if the sources are those that very often publish fake news and people can verify that and deem it untrusted? What if the sources are generally trusted but the specific piece can be verified to be not truth? Are the posters going to be punished or those cases will be considered beyond your control? As for hate speech, the first rule tells you to be civil, which probably means people will not be disrespectful with each other, but what happens when the object of the speech is outside the dialogue? Even within my political circles i am very annoyed at attempts to dehumanize others, even when they have reasons to be angry at them. What about calls for violence? Some people want to be away from that heat, even if they acknowledge the reality of war.

This reminds me when i had to install windows 10 on a relative’s computer because the motherboard didn’t allow for anything else, but i didn’t know about the privacy software people made to get windows 10 more useable, so i went for offline installation and i got hit by a very interesting message, telling me about the online “benefits” i was missing out. Among those, believe it or not, they stated “more privacy”. My jaw dropped.

That makes sense. And it confirms the complaints i heard about lemmy.ml being run by communists, even though it not looking like so. But have you thought about just talking to the admins and negotiate a plan for the mods to gradually be replaced by ones not tied to left wing movements? To avoid disrupting the user base and content?

I saw claims that the mariupol theater was bombed by russia but also claims that it was rigged with explosives by the ukrainian military. Honestly i don’t believe anything without compelling evidence. What i know is that the theater was destroyed and people died.
