The coalition contract of the newly elected German government contains right to encryption.

I maintain that we all have a right to privacy, as inconvenient as that might be for our governors. So… another good move from the incoming administration in Germany.

Personally I don’t think that this will come, because German government also plans to weaken encryption to be able to read chats and mails.

Wasn’t that the last administration’s policy though? Isn’t this a new political direction?

Let’s hope for it. After all, part of the new government, the SPD, has governed with the old government, the CDU, for the last 16 years and never said anything against the CDU’s plans to compromise encryption.

And in addition these things are mostly pushed at the EU level, which is still dominated by former members of the old government and close allies. The parts of the new German government that are against this are also pro-EU and thus they are likely to compromise.
