The proposed Chat control EU law will not only seize totalitarian control of all private communication. It will also ban open source operating systems as an unintended consequence.
Not the package managers as I understand, but the service providers providing the applications; so it would include e.g. everyone hosting package archive mirrors. This all makes no sense, because the Internet, which runs Linux, would basically stagnate.

The EU does have a bit of a track record with breaking the internet. GDPR is the only one that comes to mind, but it was a big one.
