Just in case you are not a native English speaker, the correct way to write your title is, “Flatpak and Snap are not the future”

This is because the subject of the sentence, Flatpak and Snap, is plural. I have some students who get confused with this since the subject is made of two singular nouns.

This is how I feel about Linux. It does not really matter which one is best, the first step is to just get people to use it… if they are able to.

Messaging apps are even easier since people can use as many as they want at the same time. I regularly use 5-6 different messaging apps. I use at least 2-3 daily.

My girlfriend almost never used my matrix server until I set it up on her new phone. To my surprise she called me from it the other week when she was visiting her mother.

So like Microsoft teams, maybe it will be best to just set these up on our families phones and friends who are willing and just start using it. I was once told that it is easier to ask for forgiveness than permission.

THIS! We have no way of knowing what they are actually doing on their servers so I don’t 100% trust them. Maybe like 90% trust. This really doesn’t change anything.

I wouldn’t say that he lost my respect, but it seems like he doesn’t have the time or doesn’t want to take the time to do this challenge properly. I’ve done this before with some project and nothing worked and then I read the documents and understood all my mistakes.

I would have expected that Linus would have done a better job of preparing or doing some research before jumping in and then pointing out every little issue.

While a lot of problems he has are legit the apt thing in Manjaro bothered me a bit. It’s a linux problem because he didn’t know how to use an operating system without reading how to use it.

It feels like he is going into it with the mindset of, “This should work just like Windows.”

He keeps saying that he wants to go into this without first getting outside help. Like they are learning this the hard way. Although some of the complaints I heard in this video were basically, “I don’t know how to use this software it is a problem.”

But if he were a brand new Windows user he would have the same kinds of complaints. So not knowing to use Pacman on manjaro is not really a problem with Linux. It’s a problem with his preparation and assumptions.

That’s the main thing I don’t like about app images. It is just like windows where everything needs to be updated independently.
