Lol that’s one ugly fucking computer.

Apparently they paid a design firm an excessive amount of money to end up with this dumpster fire.

Lol I thought these bastards were meant to be good with business decisions?

One word: Pocahontas. Or rather: Their “adaptation” (in the loosest possible terms) the story of the real indigenous child (yes child) that was forcibly taken as a bride and raped (yes that’s what actually happened) by a white settler. 🤢🤮

How they still have the balls to sell that movie is beyond me.

Pocahontas is most notable example of Disney’s filthy racism and erasure of crimes by angloids but even now with Moana and Raya I’ve heard it just homogenise entire cultures into one shitty take to profit off.

What can we expect from a company started by a nazi sympathiser.

Moana: portraying Māui, a revered Hawaiian (and Polynesian in general) cultural and religious figure as the comic relief.

Mulan: portraying the Dragon, a revered Chinese (and East Asian in general) cultural and religious figure as the comic relief.

Yeah, those are cute, lovable characters and totally not racist and culturally offensive, right? Imagine the outcry by the West if a Indigenous Hawaiian, or especially Chinese film portrayed Jesus in the same way.

Couldn’t agree more.

I’m ashamed to say I adored Mulan as a kid but because I thought Mulan was badass and not because Mushu was a compelling character. Why couldn’t the cricket have done the comic relief? It was infinitely funnier.

Now I can’t bring myself to engage with any Disney products/movies/etc because I’m older and see the abject racism they’ve normalised and profited off.

I wonder what culture they bastardise next.

I genuinely believe that the only thing that saved the Lion King from being just as racist if not more, is that there were no humans for them to make “jokes” about. And there were only a few humans in the Jungle Book, so same boat. Also they didn’t try to “”“adapt”“” a real folktale or other cultural thing from over there.

I mean, they still used mostly white voice actors for a story set in Africa and India respectively. Animal characters or not, don’t ya think there’s a problem with that?

I absolutely do. They made a big deal about casting all the voice actors for the remake of the lion King as black actors which was a rare bit of consideration by Disney but it felt performative (to me at least) and too little too late but as a filthy anglo I’m always hesitant to shout my takes too loudly regarding the above considering its not my culture that is getting fucked about.

Like the Raya example, I listened to a podcast by East and South East Asian Internet peeps regarding how it handled their culture before shitting on Disney because frankly what do I fucking know.

I was telling my friends about this exact video the other day lol! How weird, you stalking me 👀 hahaha

The most shameless branding I’ve seen was a couple years ago when they had Star Wars lettuce.

Like, just a regular package of iceberg lettuce with a Star Wars graphic on it?

You just know there’s some rotten kid whining to his mom that he won’t eat the tacos unless it has star wars lettuce in it.

Lol what?

I mean, at least imprint Darth Vader on the leaves themselves. /s

I saw them in the store and was like wtf. It got made fun of on mainstream Reddit even. I guess capitalism can go too far sometimes.

Reminds me of how Apple’s iShit goes for like double the material cost of everything that’s in them.

For anyone who wants to see computer hardware that is more priced after the material cost and cost of production, rather than “market value” or whateverdafuq: https://www.pine64.org/

Also, speaking of Pine64, another user pointed out that it’s most likely that they’re just comprised of one or a number of Chinese manufacturers that operate under that name in the West. Which if true, I think it’s kind of sad, because you know they’re only doing that because Westerners, including the open source community, basically distrusts all Chinese contributions, you know, even though their stuff is open source and you can just check for anything suspicious, which is one of the major pillars of open source.

If true, I didn’t know that and it’s sad indeed. I actually own some Pine64 hardware because I think their cause is great and I’m a free/libre software enthusiast myself. They shipped it to me from a factory in Hong Kong.

Now that you mentioned it, in the beginning of the year I remember they were telling people that they’re unable to produce or ship anything because the chinese government issued a lockdown and they even posted an image of a letter they got in the mail (which was in chinese but they translated it) telling them to stay inside until further notice. Also every year around chinese new years they halt production.

EDIT: Also, also when I ordered I had to send the money to China.

Also I hate how Apple fans go “well Apple gives you software for free that Windows charges you for!” (Namely their office apps Pages, Numbers and Keynote. Also GarageBand and iMovie which supposedly a surprising number of people care about.)

Yeah no. Those aren’t free. They’re apart of the cost of the device because buying the device is the only way to get them. Also, libre (aka truly “Free”) software has answers to all of them, and I’d seriously argue that the well-known libre alternatives are just as if not more functional, only less shiny and glamorous.
